Findhorn
This charming village used to be a busy fishing port but is now a beautiful place to enjoy a relaxing holiday. Its location along the edge of a bay facing across the Moray Firth is stunning. There are two pubs, The Crown and Anchor and The Kimberley, a fish and chip shop, The Bunty and a bustling and well-stocked village store. The Bakehouse is a new addition which we would heartily recommend for brunch, a latte or a delicious evening meal. There are seven miles of sandy, unspoilt beaches stretching from Findhorn to nearby Burghead.
Forres and Elgin
Forres is a ten minute drive away and has further amenities such as shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. Forres is one of Scotland\#s oldest small towns, and also one of its most attractive. The town is steeped in history from the Pictish era when the mysterious 'Sueno's Stone' which stands over 22 foot tall was erected. It is the largest know Pictish sculptured stone in the world and can be seen at the east end of Forres town. The town's impressive parks and gardens with outstanding floral sculptures have led to many awards from the prestigious Britain and Scotland in Bloom competitions. Elgin is about 20 minutes away by car and is a fascinating place to visit. Scotland's smallest and friendliest city; Elgin today is a city steeped in history, there's a ruined castle on a hill, a classical town centre, an award winning museum, restored 18th century town houses and wynds, a beautiful cathedral with the nearby Bishops House and beyond the Cathedral, Johnstons of Elgin Visitor Centre.
Inverness
Slightly further afield is Inverness, approximately a 45 minute drive away. One of the many joys of Inverness is the rich variety of places to visit and things to see and do in and around the city. The city boasts a host of historic buildings in the Old Town to appreciate while you shop. And don't forget to enjoy the views from our castle; you'll see it as you stroll along our beautiful riverside. En route, take in Culloden Battlefield or immerse yourself in the past at Clava Cairns. Beauly, with its historic Priory and specialist shops, isn't far away. To the south-west keep an eye out for our most famous resident - Nessie on nearby Loch Ness. Beautiful Urquhart Castle is supposedly the best place for sightings!
Golf
Findhorn is a great base for a golfing holiday; there are 10 courses within a half hours drive of our apartment.
